2010 Special Classes

Saturdays
11:40 - 12:40 p.m.

The new Saturday classes are structured in a series of sequential sessions designed to build on each other.

"Taiji Matching Set (Fighting Set)"
January 9 - March 20, 2010

The Yang style two-person matching set is famous for its effective utilization of the various bare-hand skills that are inherent in the classical Yang style.  Understanding of the matching set is required to practice Taijiquan effectively with a deepened understanding as to the essence of this amazing martial art form.  The two person choreographed drills simulate real fighting situations, using softness to overcome hardness.  Students will learn to use the Taiji postures from this form in the way that they were originally intended.  The matching set is fun to practice, yet humbling in the way it reveals the depths of the art.

"Taiji Ball Form"
March 27 - April 17

Paul Mahoney will teach the wooden ball form that he created. This short form is easy to learn, yet it incorporates many of the important ball patterns that are most crucial for improving Taiji movement.  Once the student is able to move well with the ball, the individual form will also improve measurably.

"Chinese Fan Boxing"
April 24 - May 29

David Bodoh will bring back the popular and lively Fan Boxing to Great Bay.  The six week class will include the study of the Fan Boxing form.  Students will practice some of the fan skills that are required to practice the form correctly. David also plans to introduce several of the martial applications of the fan.
